Now that we have finally gotten a chance to see most of the teams play we are releasing our first high school team rankings of the year. There have been a number of good games already this season with most of the marquee interstate matchups being played. Check out the rankings and if you don’t agree with them let us know in the comment section.
1) Grayson (2-0) Loganville, GA – Any team that can be this years Miami Central by 32 is scary good. They have an underrated prospect, Robert Nkemdiche, that could be decent one day (sarcasm)!
2) Manatee (1-0) Bradenton, FL – Went down to south Florida and came away with an impressive 41-6 victory over a good Miramar team.
3) Booker T. Washington (1-0) Miami, FL – Will see how truly good they are this week when they play Miami Central.
4) Skyline (1-0) Dallas, TX – Defeated a good The Woodlands team last week and has another battle this week with a better Arlington Martin team.
5) Santa Margarita (2-0) Rancho Santa Margarita, CA – Already has a solid out of state win over Brophy Prep (Phoenix, AZ)
6) Byrnes (2-0) Duncan, SC – The win over Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) was quite impressive.
7) Trinity (2-0) Louisville, KY – Get a nice out of state test this week from Elder Cincinnati.
8 ) Bellevue (1-0) Bellevue, WA – Great start to the season with a win over a Trinity (Euless, TX)
9) John Curtis (1-0) River Ridge, LA – I think they will beat Plant this weekend in what may be the best interstate game of the year.
10) De La Salle (1-0) Concord, CA – Take on one of the better teams from Colorado (Mullen) this week but the game should not give them much trouble.
11) Bishop Gorman (2-0) Las Vegas, NV – Any time you go to Hawaii and beat St. Louis that is a good win even if they are down a bit. They continue their brutal early season schedule with a game versus Bergen Catholic (Oradell, NJ) next week.
12) Plant (1-0) Tampa, FL – If they manage to win at John Curtis they will shoot up the rankings.
13) Moeller (2-0) Cincinnati, OH – Already have wins over one of the best teams in MD (Gillman) and MI (Grand Rapids Christian)
14) Lake Travis (1-0) Austin, TX – Texas 5A is shaping up to possibly be the best division in any state in the country and Lake Travis should be there in the end.
15) St. Ignatius (2-0) Cleveland, OH – Last years state champion should repeat this year in Ohio.
16) Cass Tech (2-0) Detroit, MI – Should go undefeated be the best team in Michigan this year.
17) Hoover (1-0) Birmingham, AL – Beat Miss. best (South Panola) 35-10
18) Union (1-0) Tulsa, Ok – Beat jenks and that is all that matters right? To them it is!!
19) Bergen Catholic (0-0) (Oradell, NJ) Will know more after this weeks game against St. Anthony.
20) Vista Murrieta (1-0) Murrieta, CA – Went to Denver and got a good win over Thunder Ridge.
21) Allen (1-0) Allen, TX – I’m not sure if it was the excitement from opening the new $60 million stadium (yes that is 6-0) or if it was the Texas high school football gods looking down on them, but beating Southlake Carroll 24-0 makes it worth every penny to them. As far as I am concerned any team that can shut out Southlake Carroll belongs in my rankings.
22) St. Thomas Aquinas (1-0) Ft. Lauderdale, FL – The perennial powers are back after a down year last year. They got a nice win in Sun Life Stadium over Columbus (Miami, FL) last week and face up and coming Broward County team Cypress Bay this week.
23) Katy (1-0) Katy, TX – Amazingly the 4th Texas 5A school in the rankings and one of them isn’t Southlake Carroll.
24) Butler (2-0) Matthews, NC – Should be the best team in North Carolina this year.
25) Don Bosco Prep (0-0) Ramsey, NJ – Will know more about them after they play Gillman this week. I get the feeling they will be pretty good though.
