What a weekend of high school football that was. We knew there would be a shake up in the rankings with all the ranked teams playing each other but there were more upsets than even we imagined. Preseason rankings are often meaningless and for years we did not do them as it seems foolish to ranked high school teams that have so much turnover before even seeing them play. That being said we caught a lot of flack from fans that wanted them so we started putting them out. This week showed that us (and all the other national polls) don’t know much until the players actually play the games.

As for the games it was clear to us that after watching Bishop Gorman destroy Cedar Hill on the road that they deserved the #1 ranking this week. One could argue that Booker T. Washington has the best resume right now. Booker T. won a thriller Friday night in an exciting but sloppy game with a controversial ending while Gorman looked pretty sharp in a game that was not in doubt after half time. IMG also had a nice sound road win over Grayson but it was amazing they called about 35 QB runs to get the job done. The IMG defense is the best in the country that we have seen this far though.

Austin Westlake makes the highest debut in the rankings after their win over Katy. The Chaparrals really need Texas commit QB Sam Ehlinger to not miss much time with his knee injury. American Heritage is back in the rankings after their road win over Colquitt County. Cocoa and Don Bosco are new in the rankings this week ahead of their showdowns with Bishop Gorman and American Heritage this week. Check back later this week for our predictions for all the big games this week.
