There weren’t a ton of games on the opening weekend of the high school football season but there were enough to shake up the rankings. Two ranked teams from Broward County (FL) and one from South Carolina went down. American Heritage and Booker T. Washington was technically a preseason game but the F5 Tornadoes handled the Patriots pretty easily and it was enough for us to move them into the rankings at #11 just behind crosstown rival Miami Central. The Patriots will have a chance to show that they deserve to be back in the rankings as they head to defending prep Force National Champions Colquitt County this week. Colquitt County had their 30 game win streak ended in an early contender for game of the year with newly ranked Mill Creek (GA). The game was not always pretty but it was exciting and we expect both teams to be in the mix for the Georgia 7A title along with Roswell, who also looked impressive this weekend, and #6 Grayson. St. Joseph Regional (NJ) is the other new team in the rankings this week.

Enough about last weekend lets talk about this weekend’s games which could be the best of the entire season. We have had all calendars marked all summer for Saturday night at 8 PM (EST) when #4 Bishop Gorman travels to face #1 Cedar Hill. For those that don’t know the backstory on this he is the quick version. It all started with a Twitter war between Gorman QB Tate Martell and a number of Cedar Hill players. Then in May Martell decommitted from Texas A&M which lost the remaining fans he had in the state of Texas. This is the most hyped non rivalry game that we can remember in recent memory. That is what happens when one player does his best to enrage the entire state of Texas. Thankfully this game will be broadcast on ESPN 2.

That game might be the highlight but there is another matchup of top 10 teams this weekend when #3 IMG Academy travels to #6 Grayson. If that wasn’t enough there is a game between #2 St. Thomas Aquinas and #11 Booker T. Washington. There are also a number of games between ranked teams and teams that could give them trouble. Those include #5 Dematha at Oscar Smith (VA), #12 Katy (TX) at Austin Westlake (TX), #16 St. John Bosco vs St. Xavier (OH), #17 Central Catholic vs St Johns (DC) and #23 Allen vs Hoover (AL).
