This is the weekend that true high school football fans dream of. High school football has truly become a national sport thanks in large part to ESPN. The perennial state powers have been scheduling more and more out of state games each year and that leads us to great weekends like this upcoming one. It’s really hard to predict what will happen this early in the season especially when some of the teams haven’t even played a game yet. That being said here are our predictions.
#4 Bishop Gorman (NV) at #1 Cedar Hill (TX) – The early season GOTY should be an offensive explosion. The home field crowd should help carry the Longhorns. While we expect Tate Martell to light it up, we see the Longhorns making the extra plays at the end.
Cedar Hill 34 – Bishop Gorman 31 (Saturday 9:00 PM ESPN2)
#3 IMG Academy (FL) at #6 Grayson (GA) – While the BG-CH game is a must watch for the off the field drama surrounding the game, this game is a must watch since it will have the most talent on the field of any game this weekend. This game will feature at least 40 players that will play D1 football. Unlike the other GOTY we expect this one to have much more defense. IMG is not clicking on offense yet but the defense is too strong for the Rams.
IMG 20 – Grayson 17 (Saturday 6:00 PM ESPN2)
#2 St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) at #11 Booker T. Washington (FL) – It’s pretty incredible this is only the 3rd best game of the weekend. These two schools are year in and year out two of the best in all of Florida. Last year STA pounded Booker T. 40-3. Expect this year to be much different. Tim ‘Ice” Harris is back on the sideline for the F5 Tornadoes and he is one of the best high school coaches in the nation and the game will be played at Traz Powell Stadium so the crowd will be rocking. Unfortunately St. Thomas has too much firepower on both sides of the ball.
