Well as we said in the writeup for the preseason rankings everything was a guess until we saw the teams on the field. Week 1 of the season definitely proved that to be the case. Our preseason #1 took an ugly loss and our preseason #5 looked like one of the best teams to ever play high school football. Three of our preseason Top25 went down in week one which made the way for three new teams to enter. All three teams had impressive victories in week 1. There is another good slate of games this week between #2 Miami Central and American Heritage (Plantation, FL), #7 Allen and #21 Carroll, #8 Sandy Creek and Plant (Tampa, FL), #9 St. Thomas and Northwestern (Miami, FL) and #11 Hoover at Colquitt County (Moultrie, GA).

1) Washington(1-0) – Miami, FL – There isn’t a poll in the nation that shouldn’t have them #1 after the game vs Norcross. It was simply one of the most impressive performances we have ever seen especially when you consider the fact they were on the road in a different state in the first game of the year. FSU commit Treon Harris was unstoppable and put on a show for the ages going 23-28 287 yards and 5 TD’s while only playing 3 quarters. Special credit also goes to Jordan Ingraham who neutralized Lorenzo Carter for most of the game. As I mentioned on twitter I’m sure he is hearing from a lot of coaches today. The defense gets some credit to but it was more a case of Norcross being out of synch which led to a number of turnovers. Everyone should be marking their calenders for September 6 when Washington travels cross town to face Miami Central in what should be the game of the year and probably the decade.
2) Central – Miami, FL – About that Central team. Well they went out and destroyed a very good Palm Beach Dwyer team 44-13. Technically the game was a scrimmage but it showed me enough to move them up to #2 in the rankings. It would’ve been the most impressive showing of the weekend had Washington not played. They have another tough game this week at American Heritage. They cannot look ahead to the showdown with Washington.
3) St. John Bosco – Bellflower, CA
4) Edna Karr – New Orleans, LA
5) Junipero Serra – Gardena, CA – I watched some video from the Serra vs Long Beach Poly scrimmage and both teams looked good as expected. Serra is the better team but both will definitely compete to be the best in California.
6) Paramus Catholic – Paramus, NJ
7) Allen – Allen, TX
8 ) Sandy Creek – Tyrone, GA
9) St. Thomas Aquinas – Ft. Lauderdale, FL – They beat crosstown foe Dillard 21-10 in a game that is technically a scrimmage but is pretty much a real game. They play their next two games in NFL stadiums if that gives you any idea as to the importance of the games.
10) Dematha – Hyattsville , MD – They got a very good win over on the road versus one of the best teams in Virginia at Phoebus 24-20. It wasn’t pretty at times but they can be expected in opening games. The defense led the way in holding Phoebus under 200 yards of total offense. The fact that they won keeps the season on track.
11) Hoover – Hoover, AL
12) De La Salle – Concord, CA
13) Hamilton – Chandler, AZ
14) University School (1-0) – Defeated Homestead in 41-21 in an ESPN Kickoff Classic game. Auburn commit Sean White carried over his strong momentum from the summer to the first game of the year with a strong performance.
Homestead, winning 41-21
15) Centennial – Corona, CA
16) St. Edward
17) Cass Tech
18) Katy – Katy, TX
19) Gainesville – Gainesville, GA
20) Poly – Long Beach, CA
21) Carroll – Southlake, TX
22) Mountain Pointe (1-0) – Phoenix, AZ – Went on the road and beat previously ranked Bishop Gorman 28-21 in Las Vegas. The Payne brothers piled up 300 yards on the ground in leading the way for the Pride.
23) Steele – Cibolo, TX
24) Northwestern (1-0) – Rock Hill, SC – Beat Gaffney 51-19, who many considered to be the best team in South Carolina.
25) Ensworth (1-0) – Nashville, TN – Went on the road and beat a very good Trinity team in Louisville.
Dropped out
1) Norcross – Norcross, GA
17) Apopka- Apopka, FL
21) Bishop Gorman- Las Vegas, NV
