Two major upsets caused some shakeup in the rankings this week. One was a feel good story and the other was heartbreaking. No place in the country suffered more adversity this week than Thousand Oaks, California. Earlier this weeek there was the mass shooting at the bar. A day later wildfires ravaged the community. Oaks Christian High School is located in Thousand Oaks and they had a very important playoff game last night. A game that most thought they would lose. They won a classic 35-34 over JSerra. The Lions are now ranked in this week’s rankings and have a matchup with #1 St. John Bosco this week. On another note about this game the JSerra parents should be commended for putting together pregame meals for Oaks Christian. It gets lost a lot in the hyper competive nature of high school football, but this was a good deed that brought everyone together.

The other upset came out of the WCAC. Gonzaga defeated St. John’s on what appeared to be a bad fumble call. The Cadets were about to go ahead late when it appeared their running back was down and the ball popped out. Gonzaga scooped it up and ran it back to seal the game. No one ever likes to see bad calls determine the outcome of a game. Especially not a playoff game. The Cadets still had a great season and Gonzaga will look to get revenge on another team it lost to this year, Dematha, in the WCAC finals.
