Preston Williams is ranked by Scout as the top wide receiver in the class of 2015. He is currently committed to Tennessee, but has took visits to Georgia and Florida. I interviewed Preston recently to get his take on a few topics.
Q: How much pressure would you say there is for an athlete to stay in-state for college?
Preston Williams: “It’s not pressure. Like Georgia doesn’t pressure me into coming, but it’s more of “why not play for your hometown”, but I wouldn’t say it’s pressure.”
Q: What can you tell me about how your recent trip to Georgia went?
Williams: “It was great. Got to sit down with the coaches. They want me to become a better person because football doesn’t last forever.”
Q: How was the visit to Florida?
Williams: “Nice place, everybody is relatable out there. I talked to some of the players and everyone just seemed relatable.”
Q: What is it about Tennessee that made you want to commit early in the process?
Williams: “I felt more relatable with the coaches. It was a dream school for me.”
Q: What makes Butch Jones such an effective recruiter?
Williams: “He’s a players coach. He’s a great guy and he is going to keep it real with you. He won’t do anything but help you.”
Q: Is playing in the SEC a critical factor to you?
Williams: “I feel like it’s a tough conference. I’ve been looking at ACC and SEC schools, but I feel like the SEC is a great place to start your career.”
Q: What kind of impact do you expect to make your freshman season?
Williams: “Freshman All-American. I feel like I can spread the field and I feel like I can make an instant impact.”
Q: Scouts say you are the total package at receiver, but what’s one thing you most want to improve before college?
Williams: “More of my route-running, but everything needs to improve because I have to keep working to be great.”
