Daylon Mack is regarded as one of the top defensive players in the nation for the class of 2015. He is a Texas A&M commit but that has not stopped schools like Ohio State and Auburn from offering him in the last few weeks. I recently caught up with the Gladewater, Texas High School star to see how his recruiting is coming along.
Q: In your opinion, how is Coach Sumlin changing the program for the better?
Daylon Mack: “He brought a new type of swag to the team, and he brought a winning attitude to the program.”
Q: What about A&M made you realize that that’s where you want to go?
Mack: “It’s a family environment and I have a good relationship with the coaching staff. They are on the rise.”
Q: How did your recent visit to Auburn go?
Mack: “It went pretty good. It was nice to take an out-of-state visit and see what that’s like.”
Q: Who is a pro or college athlete that you look up to?
Mack: “Vince Wilfork or Geno Atkins, because they are both kinda my size.”
Q: What are your thoughts on Ohio State?
Mack: “I like them. They are a top-notch program. I would like to get a chance to get up there and see them, but I’m not sure when though.”
Q: What is it about Coach Sumlin’s staff that seems to work so well in recruiting?
Mack: “They are loud and energetic and they relate really well to the athletes. Coach Sumlin acts young, and recruits really take well to that.”
Q: Are there still a few schools that you want to visit that you haven’t made it to yet?
Mack: Yeah, Ohio State and Texas”
Q: What kind of things are you hearing from Texas since the hiring of Charlie Strong?
Mack: “They keep telling me to come visit. They are strong on me.”
