Are you ready for what may be the best weekend is high school football history? It is highlighted by the most anticipated out of state game of the year going down in California, Mater Dei vs. St. Frances Academy. Both teams are national private school powerhouses that are in the fold for the national title this year. St. Frances has not lost a game since Biff Poggi came back into the fold in 2017. Last year their schedule was a joke through no fault of their own. This will be the game that will show if they deserve to be in the great football team discussion or just the really good. The experts are split 4 – 3 on this one.

In another huge matchup with national title implications IMG travels to take on St. Joe’s who is fresh off their win over St. John’s. Most of the talk has been that this year’s IMG team is a little down from previous years, but they took care of a very good Miami Northwestern team last week. Surprisingly all the experts are siding with the Ascenders in this one. Speaking of St. John’s the are looking to bounce back from the loss by heading to Texas to try and dash the national title hopes of Duncanville. This game will be huge a huge one for Texas as this is by far the biggest out of state game any Texas team will play this year. St. John Bosco will play Good Counsel as part of the trinity vs the USA event. The Good Counsel defense has played very well this year so far but it gets its biggest test of the year this week against DJ Uiagalelei and the Braves.

Up in northern California De La Salle and Folsom will meet for NorCal bragging rights that the Spartans have had a strangle hold on for years. Last year’s game was close and this one is at Folsom so the Braves will be looking to capitalize. Jeff from HSFBAmerica thinks they will get the job done while the rest of the experts are going with the Spartans. Two of the best teams in Oklahoma will square off in Broken Arrow with Owasso coming to town. These two teams are the last two state champions in Oklahoma with the Tigers winning it all last year. The Rams have looked impressive against a couple of strong Arkansas teams so far this year. In a good sign for the Rams the two leading experts so far this year have them goin on the road and getting the win.

Elsewhere around the country in Ohio, St. Ignatius travels to Archbishop Hoban to try to hand the Knights their first loss since when they beat them in 2017. In Utah, Bishop Gorman heads to take on a Lone Peak team that already has a good out of state win over Narbonne earlier this year. Mallard Creek heads to South Carolina for the second time this year. In the opening week they played to a weather shortened tie with the #1 team in the state. This week they will try and take down the #2 Indians. Finally in Vegas two teams that have had disappointing seasons so far will meet up when Centennial takes on Liberty. All the experts are going with the Huskies in that one.
